  • Rhythm & Pattern - Contemporary Abstraction in the American South

    Join fellow Studio Art alumni and current students and faculty at the 204 Space Gallery reception at the Department of Art.

    This exhibition explores the evolving language of abstraction in contemporary painting, bringing together four artists working in Nashville and the Southern region: Alex Blau, Alex Lockwood, Su A Chae, and Lance Turner. While sharing abstraction as a common framework, each artist develops a distinct visual system that expands its possibilities today.

    The Southern Festival of Books, presented by Vanderbilt University in partnership with Humanities Tennessee, is among the oldest literary festivals in the country, annually welcoming hundreds of authors and thousands of visitors to downtown Nashville each October. The festival will feature author talks, book signings, live stage performances, food trucks, vendor booths, and family-friendly activities. Admission is free.

  • 16th Annual National Security Symposium

    The 16th Annual National Security Symposium brings together students, military leaders, policymakers, industry partners, alumni, and members of the Vanderbilt community for a day of meaningful dialogue on leadership, service, and the evolving challenges shaping our national security landscape.

    The day will begin with the Student Leadership Breakfast, providing Vanderbilt students with a unique opportunity to engage directly with a distinguished national security leader and explore the principles of leadership, character, and service that guide those who dedicate their careers to protecting our nation.

    The symposium will feature a Keynote Address by Admiral Chris Grady, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who will share insights drawn from his distinguished career in military service and offer perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing today’s national security community. The program will include opportunities for engagement and discussion with leaders across government, academia, and industry.

    Hosted by Vanderbilt University’s Institute of National Security and the Naval Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (NROTC) Alumni Association, the National Security Symposium reflects Vanderbilt’s commitment to developing future leaders through collaboration, dialogue, and engagement with those serving at the forefront of national security.
